Apes at the Zoo

While visiting the Lincoln Park Zoo with my son for Zoo Lights we found the Ape House open and these two Apes cuddling together.

Ginger and Cinnamon

These are our boys we got almost two years ago. They are the sweetest nicest cats I have ever had. They are very playful and love to play with feather toys on lines and jump very high in the air. They constantly purr, want to be petted, sit on your lap and held by all. They let Paige pick them up and carry them all over the house any way he wants. They will sleep under covers with him. Never had cats this pleasant and nice all the time. We got them when they were 5 weeks old and they have been this way ever since. They have both have a great personality.

Paige and Ginger

Ginger

This is one of my favorite pictures of Ginger. He looks regal to me just sitting there posing. He is definitely my baby, following me wherever I go. He loves to cuddle with me. He also is very smart, he has discovered how to open the porch door when he wants in. He stands on the latch and opens the door, now if only he could close it after he lets himself in.

Sunset at the Cabin

This is my attempt to recreate past sunset photos using our favorite tree that died and fell down last year.  This is just some left over shrubbery that was around the beautiful oak tree that use to be in front of our cabin. Many a sunset picture taken by all of us over the years featured parts of the tree in the picture. The cabin is not the same with it gone, but it does really show you what the cabin looks like now coming off of the lake. I don’t have a picture of it, but need to take one next year.

Peter W July 2014

This was in downtown Chicago after being at the Taste of Chicago all day and walking over to Millennium Park to the water fountains. I love that this captured his personality when he thought no one was looking. He has a beautiful smile, but it can be hard to come by around us sometimes now that he is a teenager and would rather argue with us on anything we say now a days.

Peter & Paige Walking in the Park 2014

I love this picture. I did not realize what I was capturing when I took it. I was just trying to take their photo while they were walking in front of me, but I never realized the statues were facing the same way as the two of them. There is just something that speaks to me with this one.

Peter Playing Soccer 2014

These are the types of shots I really try to capture of my boys playing sports. It can be hard to capture great photos that are clear and show the action going on the playing field.

Paige Soccer 2014

Paige at Night at Cabin 2014

This is Paige’s usual look when you want to take his photo if he is not covering his face. He is not very cooperative with me when I want to just shoot some shots.

Day 3 – Ginger Playing Hide and Seek

Ging likes to play hide and seek with me every time I go into our bathroom. He runs in and hides under the curtain thinking you can’t see him and then will swat at you as you walk by. It is his little game that he loves to play on a daily basis for attention.

Day 1 – Ginger sleeping

Just watching the cat sleep so peacefully where ever he wants to sleep.

Day 2- Shadow

Shadow sleeping on a pillow on the radiator.

Day 4 – Illumination at Morton Arboretum 1

I could not decide which photo I should choose for today so I picked 4 of them that were my favorite from our trip out to the Morton Arboretum’s Illumination. We went for the first time last year and the boys asked to go back this year when looking at something to do over the break. It was a little cold tonight, but a lot less people there because of the cold night. Glad we picked this night since we really got a chance to take our time and enjoy the night and each other and not fight with crowds of people like last year. Glad we went.

Day 5- My Older Son, Peter

I needed a photo to take before the day ended and I ended up sitting next to my older son and snapping a picture when he wasn’t paying attention on my camera phone.

Day 6 – Cinnamon

It is by far easier to photography the cats. My boys don’t want to cooperate most days so when I am looking to take photos from time to time I just grab the camera and try to get whatever cat is around me at the time.

Day 7 – Paige

Occasionally I get lucky and I can capture one of my boys. Once I got Paige to ignore me or faked him out I was able to capture him watching something on tv.

Day 8 Ginger

Ginger just lying around waiting for me to play with him.

Day 8 Peter

Peter working on some homework due for school.

Day 9 Ginger by the tree

Day 10 – Cinnamon & Scratching post

Cinnamon rubbing his head on the scratching post all over the catnip on it. Very happy cat right now.

Day 11 – Trees in Lincoln Park

I took this picture on my walk into work this morning. There had been a couple inch snow fall last night and it was really beautiful on these two evergreen trees. What does not show is the cold temperatures that was out here this morning only about 5 degrees out with a wind chill of -20.

Wyatt & Sammy

These set of pictures of Wyatt are in memory of this sweet dog. He was my brother’s family dog, but he had a place in all of our hearts. He woke up over the weekend all of sudden not being able to walk. I don’t think he was very old but had had some issues over this past year. Here’s to a sweet dog who stole a piece of all of our hearts!

Day 12 – Peter

Peter staring at his phone screen walking around the house. That’s a teenager for you.

Day 13 – Snappy

This is Snappy the turtle we have at work in the Science room. We let him out today during my Digital Photography class I teach to our Second to Fourth Graders. The kids were taking lots of photos of him.

Day 14 – Cinnamon

Cinnamon was all hyper this morning rubbing himself on the scratching post into the catnip on it. I couldn’t resist capturing it.

Day 15 – Paige

My younger sweet son, Paige. Listening to music on his iPod.

Day 16 – Plant in the Snow

I took a few pictures outside today while it was snowing. This was my favorite because it shows the snowflakes on top of the plant.

Day 17 – Evergreen Tree in the snow in Lincoln Park

An Evergreen tree I walk by every day I go into work. Walked over to the other side to capture the snow clinging to the branches on the one side of it.

Day 18 – Sun Rising over Lake Michigan

Sun rising over Lake Michigan this morning on the walk into work.

Day 19 – Ginger in his box

Ginger loves sitting in boxes and this is a typical picture of him.  He looks like he wants to tell me something and quite smart about it.

Day 19 – Shadow (Cat-Cat)

It is not often I can get a picture of Shadow. Usually he is walking up to me right into the lens so I can’t take a picture of him. It almost makes him look regal.

Day 20 – Dog in Park

This is one of the kid’s from schools dog. We were out taking pictures after school tonight in the park and came across a couple of dogs walking with one of the dads. I couldn’t resist them, they were so cute.

Day 21 – Ginger

The cats are the only ones who allow me to consistently take their picture almost everyday. My boys hide and pull things over their faces so I can’t take their picture most days.

Day 20 Extra – Sunrise along Lake Michigan

I took this picture yesterday morning on my way into work walking through Lincoln Park. It was a beautiful sunrise with lots of great color. It is too bad that there are all the light poles and cars driving along Lake Shore Drive. I shot more up in the air to get rid of some of it because I was running late and had to be at a meeting so I couldn’t go to the bridge over Lake Shore Drive to take my picture.

Day 22 – Grant

Took this picture at Paige & Cristian’s joint birthday party. It is of one of Paige’s good friends.

Day 25 – Ginger

I was very sick the last two days so I missed posting and taking pictures. So here is my continuation. Ginger in his usual pose up on the bookcase,  looking down on everyone and everything.

Day 26 – Cinnamon

Day 27 – Cinnamon

Side view of Cinnamon. It really shows his stripes. He has really beautiful coloring.

Day 28 – Ginger

A good overall picture of Ginger that I can’t resist so I am putting up two of them today.

Day 28 – Shadow

Wanted to get a good picture of Shadow today, he is not in as many as the other two cats. He also is harder to take at times since he is all black, but this was the perfect black and white photo today. I still need to get the girl cat in some of these, but she is always hiding.

Day 29 – Fresh Snowfall in Garden

This is my front flower garden right after it snowed today.

Day 30 – Sunrise through the Trees

This is around 63rd Street and LakeShore Drive. I stopped by the park when I saw the sunrise that was starting to happen and for once I had my camera with me and I was thinking about it before I left for work for some reason this morning. This site has had many a beautiful sunrises after I have dropped my son off at school and am going over to LakeShore Drive to drive up to Lincoln Park to work. Makes me appreciate all the beauty in the world.

Day 30 – Sunrise over Lake Michigan

This is another picture from the same park at 63rd and LakeShore Drive. I can’t believe how beautiful this was this morning. Takes my breath away. Glad I remembered my camera for once and had time to stop to capture it and just reflect on the start of the day.

Day 31 -Garden by Lincoln Statue in Lincoln Park

On my way into school this morning I took a few pictures of the freshly fallen snow that covered Lincoln Park. It was still very beautiful, but there were starting to be footprints all over from people taking their morning walks. I really like what happens with the grasses during the winter in the garden that leads to the Lincoln Statue that is directly north of our school. As you can see there is snow sticking to the grass and it was blowing in the wind a little bit this morning.

Day 32- Sunrise over Lake Michigan

I can’t believe the beautiful sunrises lately over the lake. Each day there has been different colors to capture. It has been incredible.

Day 33 – Light Fixtures in Moody Church

We took the photography kids over to Moody Church today to see if we could go inside and take pictures. I love the light fixtures and how the light reflects onto the ceiling.

Day 34 – Lake Michigan

I had time to stop along Lake Michigan again to take pictures at the 39th Street Park. It was very cloudy and dark across the Lake while the side by us was becoming lighter. It made an interesting picture. I also took ones of downtown but they are not as good as I think this one is.

Day 35 – Ginger

Back to taking pictures of my favorite cat and buddy, Ginger.

Day 36 – Winter Storm in Chicago

On February 1st, we had a winter storm in Chicago. It has not snowed much at all this winter, but today we had this storm come through and it is making up for all the snow we had not gotten yet. This was about 8 am this morning when I took it by 2 pm we had over a foot of snow.

Day 37 – Shadow in Snow after 20 inch Storm

Shadow wanted outside so badly. I decided to let him out to see his reaction in the amount of snow we got. Considering we really had nothing left before this storm came in yesterday. He ran down the steps and stopped at the bottom, tried to go around the corner and then turned around and ran up the stairs to come back in. Not thrilled by the amount of snow.

Day 38 – Tree in Lincoln Park

It starting snowing again tonight. This tree just really struct me when I was looking to take a few pictures in the park. The dark bark against the pure white snow.

Day 39 – Evergreen Tree in Lincoln Park

This tree is just so beautiful with all of the snow on it.

Day 40 – Sunrise at 39th Street Park

On the drive in this morning I could tell it was going to be a beautiful sunrise. I raced up to the 39th Street park along LakeShore Drive to catch the sun as it was about to come up out of the clouds. I was not disappointed. With all of the snow it took a little time to find the shot I wanted, but I definitely found it with this one. I feel so lucky to see so many of these each morning on my drive to work. I notice them more with doing this photography project more than I ever have.

Day 41 – 39th Street Park

My morning stop along LakeShore Drive to photography the sunrise. I am going to make it a goal to stop at least once a week to get the morning photo from this park. I also love the 63rd street park, but there is too much snow blocking the entrance into the parking lot there.

Day 42 – Peter’s Sectional Swim Meet

Peter swimming the 50 Breaststroke at Fenwick Sectional Meet on February 7th, 2015.

Day 43 – Paige

Paige after his basketball game listening to music and playing games on his iPod.

Day 43 – Cinnamon

I had to add this one of Cinnamon, this is his usual pose nightly, He was being so cute.

Day 44 – Shadow

Shadow looking longly outside the front window in his usual pose. He is looking rather nuts on top of it.

Day 45 – Sunrise at 39th Street Park in Chicago

Wow, another gorgeous sunrise along Lake Michigan in Chicago. I can’t believe I am so lucky to see and then actually photograph the morning sunrises this year. I will miss when I am not up early enough to catch them when I drive along the lakefront.

Day 46 – Sunrise at 39th Street without the Sun

It was cloudy out and there was no sun, but I wanted my trees anyway.

Day 47 – Sunrise at 39th Street Beach

It was mainly cloudy this morning, but the waves were crashing along the beach so I tried to get a little bit of the trees. Someone was parked in my usual place so I had to park down from it.

Day 48 – 39th Street Beach Morning

Sun had risen, I had a later start today so I missed the unbelievable beautiful colorful sunrise along the late. I could see parts of it from our neighborhood. I had to stop at my normal point to take a picture along the beach

Day 49 – Cinnamon

Happy Birthday to my two Orange Cats, Cinnamon & Ginger. They have turned two today. They are such sweet little boys.

Day 50 – Ginger in my Roses

Ginger was smelling my roses and other flowers along with getting ready to chew on the leaves. I couldn’t help but captured him in his usual mischievous ways.

Day 51 – Ginger

Ginger hiding from the vacuum under my robe on the bed. He loves to hide underneath clothing or curtains, whatever he can.

Day 52 – Trees along the Lakefront

Stopped at the 39th Street Lakefront park again this morning. It was very cloudy and quiet, but I took this picture of a bunch of the trees anyway. It was peaceful out.

Day 53 – 39th Street Lakefront Park

Sunrise this morning at my favorite place to stop each morning and capture it at the lake front.

Day 54 – Lakefront at 31st Street Park

The sunrise was unbelievable this morning. It was incredibly cold -7 for Chicago and the steam was rolling off of the ice and water. There were low clouds in the east and it made for the perfect picture. I was at a different park on my way in this morning since I did not drop my high schooler off. I got out of my car and walked out and got a little too cold taking these pictures. I am putting two of them up today.

Day 54- 31st Street Lake front park

The sunrise was unbelievable this morning. It was incredibly cold -7 for Chicago and the steam was rolling off of the ice and water. There were low clouds in the east and it made for the perfect picture. I was at a different park on my way in this morning since I did not drop my high schooler off. Day 55 – Lakefront Sunrise – 39th Street

My usual stop along LakeShore Drive in the morning for the sunrise. It is now coming up earlier so I missed it a little bit this morning. I also stopped before this and will post one of those pictures too because I really like the style of that one. This is my two favorite trees to in the fore ground.

Day 55 – 63rd Street Park

Here is the other picture from this morning along LakeShore Drive at the first park I went to as the sun was rising. I got here a little late since the sun is rising earlier now. It was beautiful between the trees and I love the grass blowing around the bottom of this picture.

Day 56 – Boys swimming together

The boys swimming and playing together at the hotel pool. They were getting along so well together. It was really nice to see.

Day 57 – Dad

Day 59 – 39th Street Beach

My two favorite trees again. I had to go back to them since I haven’t put them in my photos for the last week.

Day 60 – Sunset this night

Sunset on the way home. Tried hard to not capture wires and homes.

Day 61- Ginger hiding

Ginger was hiding as usual under the covers on top of my bed. He loves to play this game.

Day 62 – 31st Street Park

Today I walked out at the 31st Street Park along the water. It was still icy and frozen solid. I could not believe the ducks just hanging out there. It was a bright sunny start to the morning.

Day 63 – Peter

My son Peter fell asleep laying on the radiator after school. He can sleep anywhere at anytime. I sure wish I could.

Day 64 – Sunrise at 31st Street Park

This was today’s sunrise at the 31st street park this morning. Beautiful as usual. Had a great cloud mix both low and high in the sky.

Day 65 – 39th Street Beach

Left for work earlier today since I had to drop off a couple of kids for water polo practice at 6:30 am. So I was in place for the sunrise over the clouds. The clouds came up and there wasn’t much of the sun to see as you can tell from the picture.

Day 66 – 39th Street Beach/Park

Another morning where the sun had risen up but with the clouds still in the sky it produced another awesome sight over the lakefront.

Day 67 – My Phalaenopsis Orchid

An Orchid that I was given for our anniversary and Valentine’s Day. I love the colors in it.

Day 68 – Ginger

Ginger has been following me all over today as usual. When I took out my camera, he just sat looking up at me on the cabinet. He is such a loving cat, just always near me when he can be. His presence calms me and makes me feel better. It is like he knows I am sad today, I got bad news this morning that my youngest cousin got killed in a car crash early this morning. She was hit and killed instantly by a drunk driver in Minneapolis. She was an amazing young woman working for non-profit causes to make the world a better place. I haven’t seen her for a year or two since we lived in different states and it depended on family activities on whether or not I saw her. She is the youngest cousin while I am the oldest. There are 20 years between us. It is still a shock that I won’t see her the next time we all get together. My heart goes out to my aunt and uncle who have to be devastated by this news, I can’t imagine what they are going through right now. RIP Erin, may you be the bright star in the sky leading all of us to be better people and fighting for human rights.

Day 68 – My cousin Erin

I got very bad news this morning that my youngest cousin, Erin got killed in a car crash early this morning. She is the beautiful young woman on the right with the curly hair. RIP Erin, may you be the bright star in the sky leading all of us to be better people and fighting for human rights. This is one of several pictures I took of her a couple years ago at my niece’s bat mitzvah. I am so happy I have these great pictures to remember her by.

Day 73 – Erin Memorial

This is in memory of my beautiful, talented cousin Erin, who was laid to rest today. What an extraordinary woman, who did so much for others, and was so humble. Two of the pictures are mine and a couple are ones used by her sister. I grew up with this family and we were really close as kids, we haven’t spent as much time together since our grandparents had passed, but every time we were together it felt really good like family, catching up on everything. The world lost a champion of human rights, fighter for the underdog, under privileged, such a shame her life was take-in an instant by a drunk driver.

Day 74 – Sunset on the way home from Minnesota

I shot this out the car window as the sunset happened coming in to Illinois on the way home from Erin’s funeral. It was beautiful, we felt like she gave us good weather so we could all be together and enjoy each others company. We saw an eagle as we were at the grave site which was her spirit with us.

Day 116 – Yellow Daffodil in bloom

A soft yellow daffodil in bloom that has an orange center. It is really pretty.

Day 117 – Green & White Tulip

This is one of my favorite Tulips, it is a lite pink when it opens up, but green and white on the outside.

Day 118 – Parrot Tulips

More Tulips in the backyard. They are parrot tulips and very pretty. I don’t have many of them.

Day 119 – Lilacs blooming

My lilac bushes starting to bloom. I can hardly wait. They are one of my favorite flowers. As a kid I used to walk down the road and pick the ones just growing by the roadside. I would fill my bathtub full of them, I love the smell of them and always remind me of the beauty of spring.
